New Jersey's Fourth Congressional District covers parts of Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties and stretches from the Delaware River to the Atlantic Ocean. Claiming a rich diversity of family farms, industrial cities, small towns and shore communities, the Fourth District reflects the economic and demographic strength of Central Jersey.

Until recently, the Fourth District was considered a Republican stronghold. But frustration with the rightward drift of the Republican party has made it a battleground area. Bill Clinton and Al Gore won the Fourth District handily, as have recent Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate and governor. As centrist as it is central, the Fourth District is up for grabs in 2008. It is a bellwether field for the state and the region.
